William "Bill" Kirkpatrick

In Loving Memory of William Green (Bill) Kirkpatrick, Sr., age 84. He passed away September 21, 2021. He was preceded in death by father and mother Joe H. and Ellen G. Kirkpatrick. He is survived by sons, William G. Jr. (Katherine S.) Kirkpatrick and Joseph K. (Jennifer G.) Kirkpatrick; grandchildren, Marion Kirkpatrick Smith, Alexander R. Kirkpatrick, Jacob A. Kirkpatrick and Rebecca P. Kirkpatrick; great-grandchild, Sadie Jane Smith.

Bill was a loving Father, well known Farmer, and great Friend to all.

Bill Kirkpatrick, Sr. was born in LaGuardo, Wilson County, TN in 1937. At 5yo, he and his parents moved to the family homestead in Gallatin, TN situated on the Cumberland River, now Old Hickory Lake, the place he called home until the very end. He often recalled US troops doing training exercises in the river bottom below the home prior to and during WW2. He worked as a youth with his father, Joe, operating the Woods Ferry until the Hwy 109 bridge was completed in 1952. He took over the family farm at 15 when his father was injured in an accident. Bill graduated from Gallatin High School in 1955 and was actively involved with his classmates through the years. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and played football there his freshman year before being called back home to help with farming activity. As a livestock expert, he moved to work in Bowling Green, KY and then, Chicago IL, had two sons, worked in the Chicago Livestock Market, Wisconsin Steel, and owned Angel’s Diner. He returned to Tennessee to complete his formal education, working his way through, attaining a B.S. in Agriculture and Animal Science at Middle Tennessee State in 1967. He farmed professionally and simultaneously worked jobs in management and in equipment operation, settling at Hoeganes Corporation where he worked 20 years prior to retirement. In addition to owning farms in Gallatin and Wilson County, Bill was also el dueno del Rancho Santa Barbara in Cuncunul, Yucatan, Mexico. He was active for decades in his church, First Presbyterian in Gallatin, where he worked tirelessly as a deacon, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, Treasurer, Session Member, Trustee and missionary. Bill was a happy person who lived life well and was known for his politeness and outgoing demeanor. Bill was loved dearly by his family and will be truly missed.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, September 25th at 1:30pm from the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. Stuart Gordon officiating. Visitation is on Saturday, September 25th from 10am until time of service. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Lebanon, TN following the service.
