Sandra Denise Carter

 Sandra Denise Carter, age 79, of Gallatin, TN, a compassionate soul who dedicated her life to caring for others passed away on April 24, 2024, in Hendersonville, TN. Sandra was born in Gallatin, TN, on July 2, 1944, to the late Dennis and Chlorene Carter. She is also preceded in death by her aunt and uncle Launa and Green Newbern, aunt and uncle Lois and Ralph Carter, uncle Melvin Street, and her cousins Gary Street and Mavis Wilson. Sandra is survived by her aunt Wilma Street, her cousins Belinda (Joe) Barrett, Kathy (Jim) Crawford, Larry (Dee) Street, Matthew (Mary) Wilson, Chris (Elizabeth) Wilson, Debbie (Bobby) Johnston, Lora (Jimmy) Jones, and Bill Newbern. Sandra also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Rosalyn and Evelyn Wilson, as well as many other relatives and friends.

After earning a four-year degree from St. Thomas Nursing School, she embarked on a remarkable 31-year career at Nashville Memorial Hospital. Her passion for nursing extended beyond civilian life as she fearlessly served as a life flight nurse for the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Sandra's selflessness knew no bounds as she courageously participated in missions to retrieve wounded soldiers, embodying the true spirit of heroism. Sandra leaves behind a legacy of honor and sacrifice through her military service in the United States Air Force. Her determination culminated in becoming a Captain in the Air National Guard, exemplifying her unwavering dedication to duty and country.
 

Beyond her professional achievements, Sandra's love knew no bounds when it came to her family. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren and created lasting memories like going thrifting at Goodwill together. Despite her quiet and reserved nature, those closest to her understood that her career as a nurse reflected her kind and caring heart.
 
Sandra's dedication to serving others extended even to her own parents, whom she cared for until their final days. Her commitment to family values and selflessness will always be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
 
To honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Sandra Denise Carter, a visitation will be held on April 29, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066. A Funeral Service will follow at the same location from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. The interment will take place at Crestview Memory Gardens at 1623 Hwy 109 N, Gallatin, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the same day.
