Ruby J. Harris, 88, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, surrounded by love. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Born October 9, 1936, in Ventura, California, she was the daughter of the late Marvin Kirk Jenkins and Mallie Delno Browning Jenkins.
Ruby began her career at Washington Manufacturing in Nashville during her early years, showcasing her strong work ethic before dedicating herself to being a full-time homemaker. Her commitment to family was evident in everything she did, as she took pride in creating a loving and nurturing environment for her loved ones.
As the fifth of ten children, Ruby understood the value of family and togetherness. She married Hollis R. Harris on May 15, 1959, in Nashville, creating a bond that lasted for 65 years. Their enduring love served as a foundation for their family, which grew to include two sons, Anthony and Troy Harris, and a daughter, Cynthia Nordberg.
Ruby found joy in her roles as a mother and grandmother, cultivating deep connections with her grandchildren, Trevor Nordberg, Trent Nordberg, Sydnee Harris, and Alex Harris. She took immense pride in watching them grow, savoring each moment spent with them.
Ruby's educational journey began at North Springs High School, culminating in her graduation from Jackson County High School. Her pursuit of knowledge and experiences shaped her interests and passions, notably her love for fashion and interior design. Ruby's eye for detail and creativity enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Ruby was baptized at the age of 12, and throughout her life she lived as a follower of Christ. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gallatin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Beulah Pharris, Edith Painter, Cledith Fleming, George Jenkins, Travis Jenkins, and Dan Jenkins.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Hollis Harris; daughter, Cynthia (Tim) Nordberg of Maywood, IL; sons, Anthony Harris of Tucson, AZ, and Troy (Cherri Cooper) Harris of Hendersonville, TN; grandchildren, Trevor, Trent, Sydnee, and Alex; and brothers, Mack Jenkins, Donald (Sharon) Jenkins, and Robert (Gail) Jenkins.
