Mary Murfree Vaught passed from this life to the next on April, 26 2021. She almost reached 95 years of age, being born May 1, 1926. As a Christian, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who met her she will leave behind many who mourn her absence in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Vaught after their exemplary marriage of 50 years. She also had the tragic circumstance of being preceded in death by her son Charles Vaught.
She is survived by her children Wayne (Sandra) Vaught along with Thomas (Tiffanie) Vaught. Also, she is survived Allison Wells who was as close as family to her. Finally, she will be remembered lovingly by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved God and it could be seen in her service to the many churches she attended and worked in over the years. These include churches of Christ at Shackle Island, Rock Bridge, Hillcrest, Corinth, and Hartsville Pike. At an age where many require “Meals on Wheels” she was providing the meals. She had the sacrificial heart of Christ and it showed in the way her love poured out on all who knew her.
She was a loving wife and mother. Our family gatherings revolved around her and her desire to make everyone feel welcome in her home.
She worked many jobs in her life from owning Mary’s Fabrics store in Gallatin to working in department stores and clothing factories. On the farm, she loved to be outside and tend the garden. When she moved to town, she loved to work in the flower beds. She could make almost any plant grow seemingly with ease.
She had the ability to connect with everyone she met on a personal level, always showing more interest in others rather than talking about herself. Not only did she connect with others, she had the ability to keep those around her connected with one another. That is the charge for all who survived her and mourn her loss. Unless we each step up and follow her example, then the world will be a lonelier and darker place. It is my prayer that we take up the mantle of Mary Vaught and both connect with those around us and also keep them connected with one another.
