Although she is resting peacefully, her legacy remains.
MaJoice was a woman of strong faith. She grew up in the Baptist church in Little Rock, AR. and later became a faithful Seventh Day Adventist christian. She was born to serve and had a passion for her family and community. She always loved to sing gospel music, starting off young in life singing with her sisters, known as the ‘Bowers Sisters’. With a strong faith, she grew from there and became well known for her soulful gospel singing style throughout her life.
With such a strong desire to help people, early on, she dedicated her career to healthcare. MaJoice moved to Arkansas City, Kansas in 1965 and spent the next 17 years raising her girls and working as an occupational therapy assistant at the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in Winfield, Kansas. During those years, she also obtained an Associate of Art degree from the Cowley County Community College. Her calling was not just a job—it was her passion. Loving to travel, in 1981, she moved and found profound fulfillment in caring for Veterans at the VA Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. She spent years in Albuquerque as a business owner of “Share A Home” personal homecare for the elderly, where she provided love, comfort, encouragement, a big smile and a song to those she served. Her gentle touch and warm smile brought solace to many. While in Albuquerque, MaJoice served faithfully as a deaconess at the Central SDA Church.
One of MaJoice’s proudest accomplishments in life would be her children and grandchildren. In a selfless act of devotion and love, in 1990, she moved to the Atlanta, GA area to transition from elder care to baby care for a season. “Nana’s Place” was born, inspired by the birth of her youngest grandchild, and desire to spend more time with and give bible studies to her oldest grandchild, she cared for many children who, to this day, now adults, still refer to her as Nana. This decision mirrored her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to her family, defining her as a dedicated mother and nurturing grandmother who was deeply involved and loved unconditionally. While living in the Atlanta area, MaJoice served faithfully at the Shiloh SDA Church as a head deaconess, sang with the Gospel Messengers, and enjoyed being a real prayer warrior for Jesus. MaJoice dearly loved her Shiloh church family.
MaJoice, full circle, ended her career where she started all those years ago, back in healthcare, retiring from WellStar Atherton Place, Marietta, GA in 2006 where she had served the elderly. MaJoice retired to Goodlettsville, TN in 2006, to be near her children. True to her character, MaJoice joined the Boulevard SDA Church, in Madison, TN where she again served as deaconess, song leader, and enjoyed serving the hungry working in Ruby’s Pantry.
A true embodiment of her faith, MaJoice lived her life guided by the words of the Lord. One of her favorite Bible verses was, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “In all things give thanks,”. This was not merely a saying; it was a core principle of her being. MaJoice believed wholeheartedly that through the power of prayer and praise, all things were possible. A fervent prayer warrior, with a warm easy smile, her contributions to her community were a testament to her boundless compassion and care for others. Despite her famously disliking cooking, she was a good cook and loved to break bread with family and friends. Countless family gatherings, full of love and laughter provide lasting memories in our hearts.
MaJoice Adley Bowers leaves behind a legacy not just of service and dedication, but of profound words of encouragement, love and kindness that will echo through the lives of all who knew her. A quiet strength in the face of life's many challenges, MaJoice's life teaches us to cherish our faith, nurture our loved ones, and extend a hand of encouragement and kindness to all with a reminder to ‘Count it all joy!’ As she said to many, ‘Honey, just praise the Lord!’
In her final days, she said “I’ve got Jesus, and that’s enough”.
As we gather to honor her memory, we celebrate a woman, a real mother, who embodied the essence of a nurturing spirit—a sweet soul who is forever cherished by her children, grandchildren, family and friends and will be deeply missed.
