James W. "Jim" Johnson, Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home in Bethpage, Tennessee, on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the age of 83. Born January 27, 1942, in Nashville, he was the son of the late James W. Johnson, Sr. and Minta Lee Daniel Johnson.
Jim graduated from Gallatin High School in the Class of 1960. It was during these formative years that he met his future wife, Betty Hall, with whom he shared a devoted marriage of 63 years. He owned and operated Professional Machine and Tool Company located on Airport Road in Gallatin. His dedication to his work was matched only by his deep commitment to his faith and community. A faithful Christian, Jim was an active member of Philippi Church of Christ, where he served as an elder and exemplified the values of love and service.
A passionate outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed golfing, duck hunting, and fishing, activities that brought him joy and serenity in nature. His love for the outdoors was frequently shared with his family, creating lasting memories around these cherished pastimes.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Betty Johnson; children Mike (Fredia) Johnson, Michelle (Mark) Tuttle, and Dr. Daniel (Tamara) Johnson; and his sister, Elaine Passman. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Amanda (Jamal) Hatchett, Jana (A.J.) Wilson, McKayla (Cody) Gammons, Dr. Ashley Tuttle, Hunter Lee Tuttle, Abigail Elizabeth Johnson, and William Bennett Johnson; 8 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law William (Miriam) Hall; sisters-in-law Louise Hall and Linda Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and continue on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Alexander Funeral Home located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN. A funeral service officiated by Mike Seamon will follow on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in Sumner Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Carter, Rufus Reese, Jim Williams, and the employees of Professional Machine and Tool Company.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Jim's name to the Philippi Church of Christ, 970 TN-25, Castalian Springs, TN 37031.
James W. Johnson, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering faith, loving spirit, and the profound impact he had on those around him. His legacy of love will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him.
