Irene Kowandy

Irene Kowandy, age 102 of Gallatin, TN, formerly Hammond, IN, passed away May 19, 2021.  Irene was born November 25, 1918 in East Chicago, IN.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Hipolite “Harry” Rapacki and Julia Pisarski Rapacki; husband, Anthony Kowandy and son-in-law, Don Slepski.  She is survived by her daughter, JoAnne Slepski of Gallatin, TN; grandchildren, Susan O’Kane (Rory) of Cary, NC and Ronald Slepski of Aliso Viejo, CA; great granddaughter, Dr. Arynn O’Kane.

Irene was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallatin, TN and a former member of St. Catherine of Siena in Hammond, IN.  She retired from Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company in Hammond, IN.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 4th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Father Richard Childress as celebrant.

The family will receive friends from 10:30am until the hour of the service at the church .
