Hattie Mae Harris Thompson, age 85, of Gallatin, passed away Monday, October 12th, 2020. A private graveside service will be held at Crestview Memory Gardens on Thursday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m., with The Rev. Lewis Groce officiating.

Hattie was born October 5th, 1935, in Rich Valley, VA, daughter of the late Henry Clarence Harris and Marvella Havens Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy R. Thompson, Sr., sister, Mary Cornelia White, and brother James Walker Harris.

She is survived by her three sons, Billy R. Thompson, Jr. (Alison) of Gallatin, Joe H. Thompson (Brenda) of Gallatin, and Paul Thompson (Angie) of Smyrna; grandchildren, Emily Ann Thompson of Boston, MA and Lincoln Ryan Thompson of Smyrna; and sisters Roberta Lee of Saltville, VA and Elizabeth Heath of Chilhowie, VA. She was a 1952 graduate of Rich Valley High School and a 1955 graduate of the Johnston Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Abingdon, VA.

Hattie was a Registered Nurse and, after working in the Tri-Cities, TN area for a few years, moved to Gallatin to work at Sumner County Memorial Hospital shortly after it opened. After raising her three sons, she returned to the nursing field and actively practiced nursing until shortly after her 81st birthday. Online condolences may be submitted at alexandergallatin.com. Jim and Nancy Hudson——We go back to the early banking days with Hattie and Bill. We became really good friends with them. Their boys and our girls were the same age, and we did many week-end trips that were great fun !! It is nice
to remind the boys that your Mother was a classy lady, and will be missed by all of us.

Bill, Joe and Paul. So sorry for your loss. Aunt Hattie was a wonderful person and will be missed. We are all older now but l still remember when you guys came in to visit at grandmother Harris's when we all were much younger. I always looked forward to your visit. Times like this are hard and there is not much a person can say or do to ease the pain. If you guys need anything at all, please let us know. My mother ( Aunt Lois ) also wanted to say that she too is sorry and that she will miss speaking with Hattie! Our prayers will be with each of you and your families.

My sympathy to the family. I worked along side Hattie, as a nurse, for 15 years. She was so compassionate to our patients and worked diligently to make their lives meaningful. She will be missed.

Hattie and I first became acquainted when she brought Paul to me for speech therapy at the age of three or four, and ended up continuing until he graduated high school. Over all these growing up years of Paul's, Hattie and I came to know each other well, perhaps in a different context than many, but in ways that earned my respect and admiration for her again and again. She was a remarkable woman and, as a result, Paul became a remarkable young man. I never had the opportunity to meet other members of your family, but please know I am so sorry for your loss. I know she will be deeply missed.
