Guy R. Handley, 80, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida & Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025. Born on October 30, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Olive E. and Guy C Handley, Guy grew up in Aiken, South Carolina, before eventually moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There, he distinguished himself academically and athletically, graduating from the prestigious Pine Crest School in 1963 as Class President. His remarkable talent in swimming led him to break multiple records and ultimately earn a place in the International Swimming Hall of Fame. With great determination, he missed qualifying for the 1964 Olympics by a mere two seconds, a testament to his competitive spirit and dedication to his craft.
Following high school, Guy attended and graduated from Southern Illinois University. He then proudly served his country in the United States Army. After completing his military service in Vietnam, he embarked on a successful career in the banking and financial services industry of Equifax. His professional journey continued as he worked for Genworth (formerly GE Assurance) from 1999 until 2023.
Guy's interests were diverse and fulfilling. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed golfing, frequently played cards—especially Phase 10 and Texas Hold 'em—and found peace in gardening and the pages of a good book.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Jan Handley; his sister, Pam (Bill) Edwards; his mother-in-law, Norma June Ballard; his cherished nieces and nephews, including Monica Tavormina, Bobby (Amanda) Tavormina, Chris Tavormina, Brey Ballard, and Robert (Christina) Ballard; his sister-in-law, Sheila (Walter) Melton, and brother-in-law, David Ballard; and last, but certainly not least, his beloved fur baby, Gabby.
