David Satterfield

July 13, 1936 — January 14, 2023

David Wilson Satterfield was born in Trousdale County July 13, 1936, and peacefully passed away January 14, 2023, at age 86. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jim Wilson and Orlea (Mungle) Satterfield, a brother, Paul Satterfield, his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo (Allen) Satterfield, and a son, Roger Allen Satterfield. He is survived by a son, Joe David (Trudy) Satterfield, grandsons Roger Allen (Heather) Satterfield Jr., David William Satterfield, and James Denton (Jordan) Satterfield, two great grandchildren, Lillian Pearl Satterfield, and Jack Denton Satterfield, and two nephews, Ronnie Satterfield and Kevin Satterfield.

David was a true American success story. Born into poverty and limited opportunities, he lived a full and rich life due to his hard work, perseverance, and a can-do spirit. He met the love of his life while working at the Sumner County Drive-In Theater, where he ran the projector and Mary Jo worked in the concession stand. Over the years he had a wide variety of jobs. He was a milkman for Crescent Hill and Jersey Farms, managed the People’s Oil service station, held a manufacturing position at Gates Rubber and Tire, owned a small grocery store on Highway 109 North, became a realtor with Helen Bowman Realty and Martin Realty House, oversaw an interstate weigh station checkpoint for the Tennessee Department of Motor Vehicles, and finally retired from the Gallatin Fire Department. He was always a loving provider for his family.

David had a servant’s heart for his family, friends, and community. Besides his job at GFD, he took pride in being one of eight men that started the Sumner County Volunteer Ambulance Service that expanded and grew into today’s Emergency Management Service. He served as a Sumner County commissioner for 16 years, always striving to represent constituents with honor, fairness, and conservative values. He served on various boards of directors and was a deacon at East Side Missionary Baptist Church.

David was a born again Christian and often shared his faith with others. He enjoyed attending church until later in life when health issues prevented him from doing so. But he still loved listening to recordings of gospel music and watching the Old Time Gospel Hour on television Sunday mornings. He was a 50-year member of the Bethpage Masonic Lodge. We were blessed to have and love him for the time we did. His family has the solace of knowing his eternal destination, where he was no doubt welcomed with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant”.
