Clyde Nolan Schroeder

October 1, 1938 — December 27, 2024

Gallatin

Clyde Nolan Schroeder, 86, of Gallatin, Tennessee, departed to his Heavenly Home on Friday, December 27, 2024. Clyde was born October 1, 1938, in New Orleans, LA, to his parents, George and Dagmar Schroeder. Clyde was the youngest of 4 boys and was raised and spent most of his life in New Orleans. He graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School and continued his education at Tulane University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Geology. Upon completing college, Clyde served in the United States Air Force Reserve. He was employed by the Boeing Company for seven years as a computer programmer/analyst, working on the Saturn V project, and ending in 1969 with the successful lunar landing. He then worked for Ochsner Medical Foundation for 33 years until his retirement in 2003.

Clyde married his first love, Anne Elizabeth Perelli, on April 28, 1963, and had 3 children: David, Tim, and Suzanne. Clyde and Anne were married for 43 years before her passing in January 2007. In March 2009, Clyde relocated to Gallatin, Tennessee, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. While visiting Trinity Lutheran Church in search of a new church home, Clyde met Carolyn Abernathy. Not only did Clyde become a member of Trinity, but he and Carolyn fell in love and were married there on October 7, 2009. As part of this union, Clyde gained two stepsons: Jon Abernathy (Lee) and Peter Abernathy (Kay), two stepdaughters: Linda Abernathy and Julie Attaway (Chris), nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren that he loved as his own.

Outside of work, Clyde enjoyed gardening and serving at his church in many capacities throughout the years. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and could be often heard singing hymns and other favorite songs throughout the house. He was an avid supporter of Tulane Green Wave Athletics and loved attending games with his family. He also served as Treasurer for the Gallatin Lions Club. Most importantly, Clyde loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, and lived out his faith in serving others. He will be cherished and remembered by his family for his love, the memories he created, and the unique ways he captured special moments. Although he will be sorely missed, his family is comforted by the fact that he is now in eternal peace with his Heavenly Father.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carolyn (Ericson) Abernathy Schroeder; sons David Schroeder (Wendy) and Timothy Schroeder (Elizabeth); daughter, Suzanne Ramsey (Daniel); grandchildren, Christian Wick, Rachel Cooper (Tim), George Schroeder (Lindsey), Scott & Laura Schroeder; Talia, Benjamin, Alyssa, & Thomas Ramsey; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne (Perelli) Schroeder; father, George Chester Schroeder, Sr.; mother, Dagmar Matilda (Erickson) Schroeder; and brothers, George C. Schroeder Jr., Charles Warren Schroeder, and Ronald Harold Schroeder.
