Betty Ann Young

June 18, 1945 — October 8, 2024

Collegedale

Betty Ann Miller Young (79) passed peacefully surrounded by family and friends into God’s arms on October 8th, 2024. She was born on June 18, 1945, to Paul Miller and Margaret Pursell Miller Purvis in Nashville, TN.

She is survived by her sweetheart of nearly 60 years, Harold Young, whom she married on November 6, 1964, and they shared a beautiful life. Together, they created a loving home for their daughters, Sheree married to Bryan Benson, of Ooltewah, TN, and Annette, married to Terry Atkinson, of Cleveland, TN. Betty took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, leaving behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren, Ashley Atkinson, her children, Elise and Avery of Cleveland, TN; Chelsea Benson Geiger, her husband Haden Geiger, their children, Wesley and William of Stanley, NC; Andrew Atkinson of Chattanooga, TN; Lindsey Benson of Statesville, NC; and Alex Atkinson, his wife Chloe of Franklin, TN. She is also survived by her sisters: Janice Rourke and her husband Jim of Arcadia, FL; Elaine Southard of Ft. Myers, FL; and stepsister Sylvia Edwards of Arcadia, FL.

She and Harold enjoyed their life together. After their children were grown, they enjoyed traveling together. Over the years they attended their grandchildren’s countless concerts, sporting events and other activities with pride. Betty learned a love of flowers from her grandmother, Mama Sell, and she and Harold enjoyed gardening and worked side by side on any project they took on.

Betty was known as “Gambee” to her grandchildren. She loved them all fiercely and loved to spoil them not only on birthdays and holidays, but any chance she got. In addition to her grandchildren, there were several other children through the years that she adopted as her own. They brought much enjoyment to her life, and she loved them all dearly. She always made things fun for the kids, even in everyday life and activities. She also enjoyed babying their yorkies, Harley and then Sarge. They too brought her much enjoyment even though she wouldn’t admit it because they were Harold’s dogs.

Loved by all who knew her, Betty made a lasting impact through her kindness and giving nature. She worked hard at any task she took on and was not afraid of a challenge. She was a perfectionist to a tee and set very high standards for herself. She could talk to anyone she met but she especially loved to talk to family and friends for hours at a time whether in person or on the phone.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. A visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, TN 37066, on Friday, October 11th, 2024, 4-7pm and Saturday, October 12th, 2024, from 9-10am, with the Celebration of Life service starting at 10am. Interment to follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens.

The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice (Chattanooga and Cleveland), LifeCare of Collegedale and Legacy Village of Cleveland for their loving and compassionate care.
