Andrew Curl

Mr. Andrew Ray Curl, of Gallatin, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 20th, at Sumner Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Ray was born on August 31, 1933, in Waverly, Tennessee, to William Lee and Mary Lane Curl, one of 8 children.

Ray served in the United States Navy before attending Austin Peay State University and graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in agriculture. Ray served the communities and farmers of Hawkins, Macon, Robertson, Stewart, and Sumner Counties as a Soil Conservationist with the USDA and retired after 35 years of service.

Nancy Pinson and Ray married on April 20, 1968, and spent the next 34 years making their home, attending Gallatin First United Methodist Church, antiquing, and caring for their friends and family.

Ray enjoyed many hobbies among them gardening, woodturning, basket weaving, dining and socializing at local diners, coffee with his friends at Dairy Queen and Wendy’s, cookie baking, and the occasional corny joke always delivered with a wink and a smile. Ray was a self-taught wood turner and in retirement perfected his art and attended many local and national wood turning symposiums.

Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Mark Raymond, Carmel, IN; granddaughter Taylor Near (Mike) and great granddaughter Elliott, Carmel, IN; his twin sister May Glover and youngest sister Sue Curl, both of Murfreesboro, TN.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Pinson Curl; his parents, William Lee and Mary Lane Curl; siblings, Grace Curl, Mattie Spann, Mary Lee Langford, Myrtle Spann; and William Curl.

A visitation will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center on Friday, January 27th from 3pm to 6pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Alexander on Saturday, January 28th at 12pm, with visitation being held from 10am up until the time of the service.
